1. Guaitil, Guanacaste
Guaitil is famous for many things, but among them is its pottery and its food. Visitors looking for an authentic Costa Rican experience should take in Guaitil, which is situated in Guanacaste, one of the northern Pacific provinces of Costa Rica and linked by highways to the popular city of Santa Cruz.
2. Playa Callejones
Warm white sand beach, surrounded by extensive stones on the shore. At high tide, the rock formations under the sea stand out in the turquoise water to give it a heavenly tone. Playa Callejones has an intermediate swell and some trees that shade the shore. It is located near Junquillal in Guanacaste, an area that is still not very crowded, although there are already some cabins and rental houses available. Here you can also find some restaurants and supermarkets nearby. Because of the size of its stones, it is a place that lends itself to snorkeling, although it is advisable to wear beach shoes.
3. Palo Verde National Park
The Palo Verde National Park, in Spanish Parque Nacional Palo Verde is a National Park of Costa Rica, part of the Tempisque Conservation Area, that contains much of the area of the valley of the Tempisque River and covers an area of 45,492 acres in Guanacaste Province, 30 km west of Canas. The surrounding region is mostly tropical dry forests, and the Park concentrates on conserving vital floodplain, marshes, limestone ridges, and seasonal pools from the encroachment of civilization which was putting the ecology of the area at risk.
4. Selvatura Adventure Park
The Selvatura Adventure Park, or Monteverde Nature Center, Hummingbird and Butterfly Gardens is a nature center in Monteverde, northwestern Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica. It is located in the Cordillera de Tilarán mountain range, 1.2 miles south of the village of Santa Elena.
5. Rincón de la Vieja Volcano
Rincón de la Vieja is an active andesitic complex volcano in north-western Costa Rica, about 23 km from Liberia, in the province of Guanacaste. Its name means “The Old Woman’s Corner”, a reference to a local legend about princess Curabanda whose lover Mixcoac, chief of a neighboring enemy tribe, who was thrown into the crater by her father Curabande when he learned about their affair. She went on living on the side of the volcano, giving birth to a son. To be with its father, she threw her son into the volcano, too. She continued to live on the volcano and became a recluse living on the mountain, and was credited with powers of healing. Rincón de la Vieja stands 1,916 meters above sea level, and its summit is the highest point in Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park.
