Kemer is a seaside resort on the coast of Turkey’s southern Mediterranean. Part of the Turkish Riviera, it is known for its pebble beaches and the large marina. The city is backed by the pine forests of Mount Olympus Beydağları National Park, where the cable cars lead to the top of Tahtali Mountain. Nearby are the extensive Greco-Roman ruins of Phaseli and the gas fires emitted by the mythical Yanartaş rock formation.


1. Beydağları Coastal National Park

Beydağları Coastal National Park, a.k.a. Olympos Beydagları National Park is a national park in Antalya Province, southern Turkey. The national park was established on March 16, 1972, by a decree of the government. It stretches over an area of 34,425 ha beginning in Sarısu, located southwest of Antalya and reaching out to Cape Gelidonya parallel to the Mediterranean Sea across the Kemer-Kumluca shoreline. The ancient settlements Olympos, Phaselis, and Idyros are situated within the national park, which lies between the shores of the ancient regions Pamphylia and Lycia. The tallest mountain in the park is Tahtalı Dağı. The Yanartaş burning gas field is found on the foothills of that mountain. The national park offers a place for activities such as beach and sea sports, picnic, camping, trekking, mountain climbing, paragliding, etc. Visiting the archeological sites within the national park is possible all around the year.


2. Phaselis

Phaselis was a Greek and Roman city on the coast of ancient Lycia. Its ruins are located north of the modern town Tekirova in the Kemer district of Antalya Province in Turkey. It lies between the Bey Mountains and the forests of Olympos National Park, 16 kilometers south of the tourist town of Kemer and on the 57th kilometer of the Antalya–Kumluca highway. Phaselis and other ancient towns around the shore can also be accessed from the sea by daily yacht tours.


3. Lycian Way

The Lycian Way is a long-distance footpath in Turkey around part of the coast of ancient Lycia. It is approximately 540 km long and stretches from Ölüdeniz, near Fethiye, to Geyikbayırı, about 20 kilometers from Antalya. It is waymarked with red and white stripes, the Grande Randonnee convention. It takes its name from the ancient civilisation, which once ruled the area.
