Sozopol is the oldest cities on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, known as a major seaside resorts in the country.

Sozopol is the oldest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. Today it is one of the major seaside resorts in the country, known for the Apollonia art and film festival that is named after one of the town’s ancient names.

The Sozopol Old town maintains the feeling of a different era with its little alleys, roads, and churches. One thing you will notice immediately is the architecture that is quite unique. It is a large town and is separate from the new Sozopol town. You can walk through the ancient roads and find many interesting places such as the bars on the southern wall or mini markets.

This Church is dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius. They are credited with the creation of the Cyrillic alphabet. The church is well maintained and contains exhibits of both religious and cultural significance. Even though it is not the largest or spectacular of churches it’s well worth a visit.

Small museum with many well-preserved vessels from periods dating back to 4th century BC. Huge historical significance to the area and it’s linked with ancient Greeks. This is all explained in English and Bulgarian with mostly intelligible descriptions.


8. Ethnographic Museum of Sozopol

A small museum where you can see old Bulgarian clothes, carpets, fishing, and sewing equipment. This museum gives an opportunity to look around a traditional house and discover more about the social history of Bulgaria. The artifacts on the ground floor are a bit sparse, but more could be seen upstairs, where there are some incredibly carved wooden ceilings and wall panels.
