The Karlovy Vary Region is an administrative unit of the Czech Republic, located in the westernmost part of its historical region of Bohemia. It is named after its capital Karlovy Vary. The region is world-famous for its spas, including Karlovy Vary and Mariánské Lázně.

The Mill Colonnade is a large colonnade containing several hot springs in the spa town of Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. The structure is one of the traditional symbols of the town.


2. Loket Castle

Loket Castle is a 12th-century Gothic-style castle about 12 kilometers from Karlovy Vary on a massive rock in the town of Loket, Karlovarský kraj, Czech Republic. It is surrounded on three sides by the Ohře river. Once known as “the Impregnable Castle of Bohemia”, because of its thick walls, it is one of the oldest and most valuable historical stone castles in the Czech lands. It is administered by the Loket Castle Foundation since 1993 and preserved today as a museum and national monument. Every year the town plays host to an Opera festival, with performances by the Czech National Opera in an outdoor amphitheater with the castle as a backdrop, and is also the host for the Czech motocross grand Prix.

Slavkovský les, also called the Emperor’s Forest, is a mountain range in the Czech Republic in the triangle formed by the towns of Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně and Františkovy Lázně. Slavkovský Les is a huge water source with direct importance for a large surrounding area, with many notable springs. Some of the water from Slavkovský Les is used in spas in the western parts of the country.


4. Kynžvart Castle

Kynžvart Castle is a historic château located near Lázně Kynžvart in the Cheb District of the Czech Republic. The building’s architecture is in the neoclassical style. After extensive renovations, the castle was reopened to the public in 2000. A guided tour takes visitors through 25 rooms of the castle.

Hauenštejn is a medieval castle in the Czech Republic. The castle is private property of Pavel Palacký, a descendant of František Palacký. It is situated in the Ore mountains near the cities Stráž nad Ohří, Ostrov nad Ohří, Klášterec nad Ohří and Karlovy Vary not far from the highest peak of Krušné hory – Klínovec.
